Not That Kind Of An UGG: Four Tips Before Buying Your First Pair Of UGGs

There’s some contention about who really made the first pair of UGGs. Few claim that these boots were first manufactured in the ’50s by an Australian named Frank Mortel. Yet, there’s proof that Shane Stedman invented the very first prototype.

Whichever of the two versions is true, everybody’s certain about two things. First, UGG boots have their origins in Australia. Second, they are the most comfortable pair of shoes you’ll ever own.

Now, if you’re planning on purchasing a pair, you need to know a few things first. Let’s walk you through it all.

    1. The weather decides the material

While the major cities in Australia rarely experience any snow, they do tend to have variable rainfall. And wearing sheepskin boots in that weather is the fastest way to ruin them.

So, if you live close to the Australian alps or the south-eastern corners, try to wear UGGs only in drier seasons. But, if you’re bent on showing off your footwear, you could go for ankle-length gumboots.

The best bit? These types blend fashion with functionality and are incredibly resistant to harsher climates.

    2. Choose between socks or frequent washes

Unless you plan on wearing knee-high stockings, it’d be best if you paired your UGGs with ankle-length socks.

Now, you could forego socks altogether. Yet, that will also mean you need to wash your boots more often. And, if you didn’t know already, sheepskin doesn’t hold well under conventional washes.

A simple tip here is to use a damp cloth and clean the interior gently once every few days. You could also sprinkle some baking powder into the shoes and leave it overnight to get rid of any odour.

    3. Casual all the way

One of the cardinal sins when it comes to UGG boots is pairing them with formal wear. Due to how they are designed, it’s essential that you keep your overall aesthetic in line with these kinds of footwear.

So, the best pairings are your regular, everyday casual wear. Think along the lines of jeans, leggings, trousers or even sweatsuits. In fact, anything goes as long as you keep things simple.

Remember, the boots will already draw enough attention as it is. You don’t really need to clutter that look.

    4. Colours for the seasons

Contrary to popular belief, UGGs work well in all seasons. Don’t get it wrong; this isn’t about the material. Instead, it’s about the shoe’s colours.

So, if you plan to wear them in the winter, consider deeper colours such as forest green, purple, burgundy or even navy blue. In summer, though, go for softer shades like light yellow, beige, cream or khaki.

In short, gloomy winters can be made a tad brighter with richer colours, while lighter hues add to your glamorous summer look.

    Nice boots you got there!

So, there you have it—a simple but effective set of tips before you decide on your first pair of UGG boots.

Now, the first two points have to do with material and overall maintenance. In short, regardless of the material you choose, either wear socks or wash the boots periodically.

Moving on, always ensure that you pair your outfits appropriately. Avoid any formal apparel and stick to the clothes you’d usually wear. Rest assured, it’ll work tremendously well.

Finally, it’d be nice to have a few options when it comes to colours. So, consider buying two pairs, one for the summer and one for the winter.
